Passion flowers

A natural architectural wonder. How I love these flowers. I saw the red ones at the Bird Park and the white and purple one and the fruits as well around the estate near my house.

The Illawara Tree blooming again

This morning, at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, I had the good fortune of seeing this Illawara tree blooming again. It is said that the tree blooms once every ten years. I have seen this same tree bursting with fiery red clusters of flowers twice in previous years in July 2007 and March 2009.

Unfortunately for me this morning I fell smack on my face right before the tree because I had tripped over a small drain that was in my way. Fortunately, I instinctively broke my fall with my right palm that is now slightly bruised and my glasses thought they bore the full impact of the fall, were miraculously in one piece. My clothes were muddied and bits of grass were plastered onto my face and arms. I must have looked a sight. Fortunately too I had a friend with me and she tidied me up and that helped to see the incident as a passing pain. Since I had to 'kowtow' before the tree before taking pictures of its flowers, I thought I might as well enjoy them while I am still able to do so.

Hydrangea bloom

When I first saw the small cluster of young flowers more than three weeks ago, I had not expected to witness such a spectacular achievement by my hydrangea plant. These photos were taken last Friday and today the flowers are still holding out against the elements of the hot weather if anything it has grown even fuller with all the flowers open. What a joy in my own backyard.
